Your Oriental Rugs Are Pleading With You...

"You made the decision to invest in a superior type of rug. Please do not subject us to Inferior cleaning methods."

Your Oriental Rugs are beautiful works of art. They are also valuable investments.
Because they are constructed differently than regular carpeting, they should not be cleaned by the same method.

To maintain their beauty and enhance their value, your Oriental rugs should be cleaned by specially trained experts using the latest equipment specifically designed for cleaning Oriental rugs.

As my clients know, I’m always looking for new ways to serve them better. That’s why I took some time off and went to a world-renowned school for Oriental rug cleaning.
It was like a whole new world opened up before my eyes!
When I saw how much difference there is in construction and design between Oriental rugs and regular carpeting, I realized how inadequate the usual cleaning methods are. After extensive research, I'm proud to say Pettyjohn's Cleaning & Restoration has the world's first comprehensive rug washing system.
If anyone else cleans your rug, IT'S STILL DIRTY!

After we clean a client’s Oriental rugs, it gives me a great deal of satisfaction when the client expresses such joy and excitement when they first see their prized possessions after we’re finished cleaning them.

Clients tell us their friends can’t believe their Oriental rugs aren’t new because they look so fresh and beautiful. That kind of testimonial makes the clients feel good and it makes me feel good!
I could go on and on but you get the idea.

It's worth repeating that your Oriental rugs are exquisite works of art as well as valuable investments. To maintain their beauty and enhance their value, your Oriental rugs should be cleaned by someone trained specifically in caring for your Oriental or Persian rugs. To help preserve your fine textile investment, professional cleaning should be done on a regular basis.

Inspection

After your rug arrives at our world-class rug washing facility, we perform a careful inspection to determine any concerns you may have. We can identify pre-existing conditions, spots or stains, and any potential repair needs. We measure your rug to provide accurate pricing information.

Dusting

Just listen to this... Most (80-90%) of the soil in a rug or carpet is in a dry form. Some of it is powdery and some of it is sharp like sand and grit (particularly this time of year). These particles scratch and cut the rug's fibers every time you walk on it. Vacuuming helps. But most rugs are so dense that the vacuum just can't get out a large portion of the soil. If you want to see what I mean, vacuum your rug, then take it outside and hit it with a broom handle. Just make sure you're standing up wind!

I've cleaned rugs for many years…just as most carpet cleaners do. And for most of that time I struggled with the fact that I just couldn't get all the soil out. I tried as hard as I knew how, but the technology just didn't exist. I knew that most systems that did a better job than I could were also hard on the rug; they involved shaking or beating the rug, often with machinery. Then I found a system that employed compressed air and a proprietary tool. It is very gentle on the rug, yet incredibly effective. A gentle stream of compressed air helps us remove all of the harmful dry particulates from your precious rug. I like delivering the best possible job to my clients and dusting is a crucial step in the cleaning process.

Most rugs look just like this when we dust them. A special tool lifts the dry soil off the rug using compressed air. This procedure has to be done at our shop because it requires an industrial size air compressor, special mats and tools, and can get dust everywhere!

Wash

Your rug gently swims in our 1,200 gallon “Turkish Bath” washtub as water flows deep into the pile, massaging out soluble and sedimentary soils. Rugs love this! A special star paddle is used to agitate the water so the appearance of your rug is renewed with abrasive brushes or scrubbing that may damage rug fibers. Rinse

After a thorough washing, your rug slides into the centrifuge where it is rinsed completely with cool, clear water.  Centrifugal force removes excess rinse water, just like the spin cycle on your washing machine. Your rug emerges from the centrifuge just barely damp!

Finish

After the rinsing, we groom the nap, detail the fringes, and dry your rug carefully under ideal conditions to restore its original fluffy goodness.  Once dry, we perform a final detailed inspection before rolling and binding your rug.
